Weekend at Kinkuna

It's been a while since we have been camping. Most weekends we want to go out with the boat. But this weekend we had planned a while ago. We would celebrate Stephen's birthday with friends at Kinkuna. The weather was perfect. We left Saturday morning. Shortly after lunch we arrived and set up camp. After a bit of chatting and a refreshing drink we went for a drive along the beach to a creek. Stephen and Ron did some four wheel driving up the hill before we parked our cars and got out. Not long after, Ron decided to push Seppe and Tom into the water. And then the game started: Nathan wanted to push Seppe in the water but Tom pushed Nathan in (oh oh, mobile and car keys were still in his pocket). Then Ron decided to drag Nat in the water. And so one after another got dragged in. It was a fun afternoon. At night we all sat together and had drinks, some of us too many. The next morning we went to another creek to catch some yabbies. And then it was time to go home again.

Seppe's birthday

Happy birthday to our sweet Seppe. He turns 13 today. We surprise him with a machete and a voucher for a new XBox 360 special edition which is only available on 8 November. He is very happy.

whale near Fraser Island

Another day out with the boat. We are going towards Fraser Island when we suddenly see a whale. We stop the boat to look. The whale must have seen us as he turns around and comes towards our boat. He dives under and appears back in front of our boat, really close. He dives under the boat again and comes aside, having a good look at us. He was so close that Tom could touch him and pad his back. It was scary but awesome. An experience of a lifetime. Watch the movie!

Happy birthday

Another birthday today. Stephen is the lucky one. We give him a new Engel fridge and a new radio for the boat.

Going fishing

It's a beautiful day. We take the boat out and go towards Woody Island where we throw out a line. Not much luck, except for a squid that is interested in our bait, which is squid too. We catch it to have a close look and then release the squid back in the water. We continue our trip to Fraser Island, where we go on land. We enjoy the sun, go snorkeling and eat a refreshing fruit salad. We then return towards Woody Island where we try fishing again. This time we have more luck. After a short while Seppe catches his first fish, a bit later Nat has luck too. Jasper catches the next one, the biggest fish so far. And Stephen is the last one to catch one. Tom is not interested in fishing.

End of Term 3

Time flies when you're having fun. Term 3 is gone. Two weeks school holidays now.

First job

Well, actually it is his second one. When we lived in Melbourne, Jasper was working at McDonalds. But not for that long. Here, he starts working at Gringo's Mexican Cantina. He helps out in the kitchen. He works 3 to 5 hours every night.

Jasper is flying solo for the third time now.

Another boat trip

Today our plan is to follow the big boats that take tourists whale watching. But first we go on land on Fraser Island to have lunch. After a while we see the big boats passing but they go that far out that after a while we can't see them anymore. As we don't have an epirb yet, we are legally not allowed to go that far. We are a bit disappointed. We go back and in the middle between Fraser Island and Hervey Bay we decide to stop the engine for a while. Who knows we might see a dolphin or a turtle.... It is beautiful, quiet, no other boats around. And then suddenly, we see a whale with her young not that far from our boat. It is an amazing view and after lots of pictures and enjoying this moment, we go home satisfied and happy.

Father's Day

Father's Day today. We celebrate with champagne and apetizers and spoiling dad for the day.
